Sand Tots is staffed by fully qualified, enthusiastic and caring professionals who have been trained and have extensive experience in the field of Early Childhood Education. Each staff member is CPR/First Aid certified and participates in ongoing educational opportunities and professional workshops to build on their existing knowledge and experience.
Dylan graduated from Sand Tots in 1995 and found her way back, starting subbing in the Summer of 2015. Dylan was spotted in the Bumblebees and Frogs a few times but ended up spending a lot of her days with the Penguins. Good practice for starting her full-time assisting position in the Penguins class with Michelle in the Fall of 2016! When Dylan isn’t at Sand Tots or one of her many babysitting gigs, she loves to take her dog on hikes and go to concerts with her sisters.
Carolyn joined Sand Tots in the fall of 2014 as the assistant teacher in the Red Shirt Pre-Kindergarten Class. Carolyn brings years of experience as a former Kindergarten and TK teacher in the Redondo Beach Unified School District. She is also mom to two children.
Cheyanne joined the Sand Tots’ Staff in 2006. She subsequently became the lead teacher of the 3/4-year-old Sea Otters Class and has continued in that role since 2010. Cheyanne is mom to two children and enjoys family boating on the weekends and cheering on her daughter’s softball team each Spring.
Nancy joined Sand Tots in 2007 as the 2/3-year-old Ladybugs and Bumblebees teacher. Prior to coming on staff at Sand Tots, Nancy taught at the South Bay Adult School Preschool. She holds a degree in Fine Arts, a Master Teacher Permit in Early Childhood Development as well as a teaching credential in Adult Education/Parenting. Nancy enjoys walks on the beach and spending time with her three grown daughters.
Adriana joined our staff in 2006 as an assistant in the 2/3-year old Ladybugs and Bumblebee Classes and Extended Day Lunch Bunch. She became lead teacher of the Frogs Class in 2010 and co-teacher of the Red Shirt Pre-Kindergarten Class in 2013. Additionally, Adriana launched a developmental Spanish program which is now a part of the Sand Tots’ Enrichment Program. Adriana received her teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education from El Camino College. She is also a proud mom of two boys.
Ursula joined Sand Tots in the summer of 2011 as an assistant teacher in our Summer Camp Program and assistant teacher in the 4/5-year-old Whales Class. In 2014, Ursula became the lead teacher of the 3/4-year-old Sea Turtles Class and continues to be a crucial part of the Spanish Enrichment Program. Ursula received her AA Degree from Santa Monica College and her Child Center Permit through El Camino College. She enjoys spending time with her daughter as well as occasionally revisiting her former career as a massage therapist.
Michelle joined our staff as a teacher for the 3/4-year-old Whales class and the 2/3-year-old Polar Bears class in 1997, bringing years of teaching experience. In 2000, Michelle took time off to welcome her son. Michelle returned to our staff in 2001 and has been the teacher of the 4/5-year-old Whales class ever since. Michelle received her degree in Deaf Studies with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from California State University, Northridge.
Kathi started at Sand Tots in the spring of 1984 as a student teacher. In the fall of that same year, she joined Sand Tots as a parent and teacher and has been in our program ever since. Throughout her many years on staff Kathi has taught in a variety of classes yet has remained the 4/5-year-old Brown Bears Teacher since 1990 in addition to co-teaching the Red Shirt Pre-Kindergarten Class in 2013. Kathi received her Certificate in Early Childhood Education from El Camino College. Aside from teaching, Kathi enjoys photography and spending time with her grandson.
Gail brings her years of experience back to Sand Tots as a mom to four alumni students as well as former board president and membership chair. Gail is thrilled to be back in her new role of assistant teacher in the Dolphin Class as well as assistant in the Extended Day Drama Program. In addition to Sand Tots and being a busy mom, Gail tries to fit in as much Yoga as possible.
Jeanie has been the lead teacher for our 3/4-year-old Penguins Class since 1995. Prior to teaching, Jeanie spent six years at Sand Tots as a parent. Jeanie studied Early Childhood Education at Stephens College in Missouri and completed her Early Childhood Education Certificate through the U.C.L.A. Extension Program. When she is not teaching young children, Jeanie spends time with her five grandchildren.
Gretchen began her Sand Tots experience in 2011 with her daughter, Logan in the Sea Otters Class. With a Master’s Degree in Education, she soon joined the parent substitute list and quickly worked her way into a position on staff as the 4/5-year-old Dolphins assistant teacher as well as assisting with administrative responsibilities. In 2015, Gretchen assumed the role of lead teacher in the Dolphin Class. In addition to teaching, Gretchen is an insurance agent and enjoys playing beach volleyball in her free time.
Sandra has been the Director of Sand Tots since 1995. Sandra, whose own children attended Sand Tots, has experience in a variety of capacities at the school, having previously served as a teacher, board member, and room rep. Sandra received her Early Childhood Education training through the UCLA Extension Program where she completed both the Basic and Advanced Core Certificate Programs.
